The latest

On Oct. 1, 2024, Florida Blue and Baptist Health Jacksonville (Baptist Health) reached a new multi-year agreement that enables a majority of Florida Blue members to continue receiving care at in-network rates without disruption.

However, Medicare Advantage members have experienced changes to their in-network coverage for primary care services, and myBlue members no longer have Baptist Health as an in-network provider option.

Florida Blue members who receive insurance directly through their employer are not in a myBlue plan and are not impacted.

Members who are unsure whether they have a myBlue plan should check the front of their member ID card. It will clearly state at the top, “myBlue.” Any members requiring additional assistance should call Florida Blue at the number located on the back of their member ID card.

myBlue plan member updates

Unfortunately, Baptist Health requested to no longer participate in the myBlue network, a lower-cost HMO product. Florida Blue is working to help our myBlue members transition to other quality in-network myBlue providers across Northeast Florida.

Alternatively, during the upcoming open enrollment period (Nov. 1 – Dec. 15, 2024), myBlue members can also choose to switch to a different Florida Blue plan that includes Baptist Health in the network.

Here’s what this means for myBlue members:

  • As of Oct. 1, members with a myBlue plan no longer receive in-network cost share for Baptist Health services.
  • For all members, emergency care is always covered at the in-network cost share. Anyone experiencing an emergency should go to the closest ER.

Continued coverage and support for myBlue members requiring critical health care services:

  • myBlue members who are in active treatment for serious and complex cases with Baptist Health or Wolfson Children’s Hospital providers, and who maintain coverage, can continue to see their Baptist Health care team through Continuity of Care.
  • Continuity of Care entitles eligible members to receive care at the in-network cost share for up to six months, or until March 29, 2025. Members should contact Florida Blue’s customer service with any questions about Continuity of Care or for help getting the care they need. Learn more about Continuity of Care support.
  • As a reminder, Nemours Children’s Health is an independent physician practice and remains in-network for myBlue.

myBlue members can take the following steps:

  • myBlue members will still have access to all other major health care systems in the region, including Ascension St. Vincent’s, UF Health, and HCA Florida Healthcare — as well as other leading providers and specialists, such as Brooks Rehabilitation, Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute (JOI), Baptist Behavioral Health, and many others.
  • During the upcoming open enrollment period, myBlue members can also choose to switch to a different Florida Blue plan that includes Baptist Health in the network.

Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plan member updates

Baptist Health primary care providers no longer participate in Florida Blue’s Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO networks. Members in these plans have already been matched to different primary care providers. Baptist Health specialists and Baptist Health facilities continue to participate in Florida Blue’s Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plans.

Here’s what this means for Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO members:

  • Both Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO members can continue to see Baptist Health specialists and access Baptist Health facilities at the in-network cost share.
  • Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO members will no longer receive in-network coverage for Baptist Health primary care providers.
    • These members have received a letter about being matched to a different primary care provider.
    • Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO members can choose from Florida Blue’s extensive network of affordable, in-network primary care providers.
    • Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO members can continue to receive services from Baptist Health specialists and facilities at the in-network cost share.

myBlue is a popular Florida Blue family or individual only health plan (not provided by employer group coverage) designed to provide convenient and budget-friendly health care. As an HMO plan, it is centered around the member and the primary care doctor who coordinates the patient’s health care needs.

  • It requires members to use in-network providers, except in urgent or emergency situations.
  • myBlue plans offer no-cost virtual visits with primary care doctors.
  • myBlue helps keep the monthly premium lower than other types of plans by having a dedicated doctor focused on wellness and prevention, and through a network of provider partners focused on patient well-being.

Effective Oct. 1, all members (adults and children) with a myBlue plan will no longer receive in-network coverage for Baptist Health facilities and providers except for critical and emergency health care services. Florida Blue will continue to pay for medically necessary services performed at Wolfson Children’s Hospital for pediatric myBlue members.

For all members, emergency care is always covered at the in-network cost share. Anyone experiencing an emergency should go to the closest ER.
