Jacksonville, Fla. - September 24, 2015
Florida Blue and Millennium Physician Group announced today the launch of an accountable care program to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care in Southwest Florida.
An accountable care program allows an insurer to collaborate with a network of providers, sharing in the medical and financial responsibility for a group of patients. The coordination of care between Millennium physicians and Florida Blue helps improve the patient experience and ensure patients get the right care at the right time.
This type of accountable care agreement with Florida Blue is built around Millennium’s network of physicians and is not aligned to any hospital system. The partnership will provide coordinated care to patients with the goal of eliminating unnecessary spending and improving patients’ health status by seamlessly sharing information and meeting quality targets.
Launching on Oct. 1, 2015, the accountable care program will use a value-based compensation model that rewards quality and efficiency. The agreement marks the 20th accountable care program Florida Blue has launched across the state. It is another example of Florida Blue’s innovative approach to transform the way patients receive their medical care.
“We are pleased to launch an accountable care relationship with Millennium Physician Group,” said Dr. Brian Kiss, vice president of Healthcare Transformation for Florida Blue. “Both organizations realize the importance of honing their population health management capabilities for improved outcomes. This relationship will be highly beneficial to our members in Southwest Florida.”
“Millennium Physician Group is proud to partner with Florida Blue with this new accountable care program,” says Balford Francis, executive director of Millennium’s Accountable Care Organization. “Over the past two years we have expanded our quality initiatives in order to meet our mission of raising the quality of health care while at the same lowering the overall costs for our patients.”
“I am proud of how our team has succeeded at developing these programs that truly benefit the residents of Southwest Florida,” says Geurt Peet, CEO for Millennium Physician Group. “We’re looking forward to working with our Millennium providers, as well as other physicians in the community, to continue to expand these programs.”
