Celebrating 25 years of loyalty!

As we celebrate Florida Blue’s 80th anniversary, we’re reflecting on how we’ve adapted to meet the needs of our members and the surrounding community since our founding in 1944. As of 2024, Florida Blue and Florida Blue Medicare are proud to serve more than six million members across all of Florida’s 67 counties.

There’s no better way to spotlight that commitment than to hear from long-time members who trust us with their health, like Mary — a Florida Blue Medicare member for 25 years.

A woman of many adventures!

Mary’s years in Florida brought fun and fulfillment. “I’m a woman of many adventures,” she noted. 

From volunteering at The Pink Lady Thrift Shop at Holy Cross Hospital to various modeling jobs — appearing on billboards, tv commercials, and even a music video — Mary is most proud of her 16-year career as a kindergarten teacher.

“I absolutely loved teaching. I went back to school when I was older to get my teaching degree and I’m really proud of that.”

When it came to choosing a Medicare plan, Mary said she and her husband “felt safe with Florida Blue.”

“We’d heard and read many good things about Florida Blue,” Mary said. “Our friends were happy with their plan and their doctors. To this day, I’ve had no issues.”

As part of her Florida Blue Medicare Advantage plan, Mary has peace of mind with daily home health caregiver visits, twice monthly in-home nurse visits, and monthly home doctor visits. “I sleep better knowing someone will be there each morning to help me.”

This personalized care was a game-changer because it prevented Mary from going into an assisted living facility, allowing her to stay in the comfort of her home. “I couldn’t do it alone,” Mary says of her caregiver visits. “Peace of mind is what you strive for at my age,” laughed the 98-year-old. “I’ve had a very full life.” Mary also knows she can rely on community health specialist Nuvia from the Florida Blue Medicare Care Team when she needs extra help or support.
