Diabetes affects all parts of your body. If you have diabetes, it’s important to take care of yourself to avoid complications, such as vision loss, kidney disease, heart disease and more. Managing your diabetes starts with seeing your doctor regularly and making sure you get needed screenings. Regular checkups, lab work and screenings help you and your doctor make sure your diabetes is under control.
Florida Blue Medicare plans cover routine lab work and screenings for diabetes as well as tests for side effects from diabetes, such as:
• A1C testing, which measures your blood sugar over time
• Urine protein test, which checks for signs of kidney disease
• Blood pressure checks to monitor for high blood pressure
• Cholesterol tests to check for high cholesterol related to your diabetes
• Diabetic retinal exams to check for eye damage from diabetes
Getting these tests done regularly, helps you and your doctor keep your diabetes in check and avoid common side effects like high blood pressure, vision loss, and kidney disease.
Florida Blue Medicare plans also cover many supplies and medications people with diabetes need, such as:
• Glucose monitors
• Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM)
• Test strips
• Lancets
• Syringes
• Insulin (Many insulins cost $35 or less)
If you have diabetes and are a Florida Blue Medicare member, you may able to able to join one of our care programs with a coach who specializes in diabetes care, too.
